DESCRIPTION:“Mill River Flood Boot”\, drawing by Hazel\, grade 3\, 2025.\nLast year\, third graders in Gina Wyman’s class at Anne T. Dunphy School in Williamsburg explored artifacts from the Mill River Flood of 1874. They sketched the medal given to local milkman and hero\, Collins Graves\, who saved lives. This exhibit is part of the “Art and Healing Project” at the hospital\, offering support to patients and visitors. \nThe exhibit is open to the public daily beginning at 7 AM. SUMMARY:Let's Talk Invasives: Meet a Forester Woods Walk
DESCRIPTION:Come see thoughtful stewardship work in action on a small family-owned forest in Williamsburg! The walk will focus on management work done to control invasive plants. We hope you come away with a new understanding of the options in a forester’s toolkit and the complex landscape factors that inform the work that gets done. The walk will be held on private land in Williamsburg with Licensed Forester Lincoln Fish of Bay State Forestry. \nThis series is part of the Resilient Upper Mill River Watershed Project in Williamsburg funded through the Commonwealth’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) program. \nCOST: Free to the public\nAGES: Adult\nDOGS: Please leave non-service dogs at home.\nRSVP: Required \nAccessibility\n\nDistance: Total distance traveled will be approximately 1 to 2 miles.\nBathroom: No bathroom on site.\nSurfaces: Uneven terrain\, potential for roots\, mud and rocks.\nParking: Parking will be in a residential driveway and along the road if necessary.\nFragrances: To be respectful of those with allergies and environmental sensitivities we ask that you please refrain from wearing strong fragrances.\nPublic transportation: Public transit is not available to the site. DESCRIPTION:How can Williamsburg prepare for the challenges posed by a changing climate? Help shape our town’s resilience story. \nThe Resilience Fair is a hands-on community event that brings together town projects (flood planning\, rain gardens\, conservation\, emergency preparedness)\, local stories and memories\, kids’ art and performances\, maps\, models\, and expert advice\, and neighbor-to-neighbor connections. All in one place\, for one big conversation about how Williamsburg adapts and thrives. \nMove between stations inside and outside the library. Have conversations with neighbors and local experts. See how your home and neighborhood fit into the watershed. Discover simple steps you can take\, from planting trees to managing storm runoff to joining a committee. Share your experiences so they can shape future town projects. \nDrop in anytime between 10 and 1. Informal\, welcoming\, and designed for Williamsburg residents and Dunphy families\, with activities for kids\, teens\, and adults. \nAccessibility\nActivities will take place indoors and outdoors\, weather permitting. \nOutdoor Access\nOn mown grass lawn\, brick patio\, and concrete sidewalk with several optional/avoidable stone steps in the garden. Barrier-free street crossings are involved to reach participating businesses. Background noise from Route 9 and the Mill River likely. \nIndoor Access at Meekins Library\n\nSteps and barriers: The main (rear) entrance is ADA compliant with no steps/barriers. \nAudio: No audio system will be available. \nBathroom: ADA bathrooms are available.  \nFragrances: Please avoid strong fragrances in the Library. \nParking: Attendees are encouraged to park at the Dunphy School lot off Petticoat Hill Road\, to leave the small library lot available to Library patrons. There is only one ADA space. \nPublic transportation: There is a PVTA (R42) bus stop at the Grange Hall.\nSeating: Seats are hard plastic with backing; seating for 25.\nSurfaces: The Library has both hardwood flooring and short carpet.\n\nWe’re happy to discuss your access needs for this event!
